The Slow Film Festival is committed to playing its part in reducing emissions and waste.

We believe that the Slow Film is a powerful medium for the consideration of environmental themes, asking for attention to be paid to the world we inhabit and encouraging empathy towards the other-than-human. We aim to promote a critical engagement with the potentials offered by medium of slow film in confronting our relationship with nature at a time of climate breakdown.

We believe in people coming together in person and are conscious of the need to ensure that any event we run is as environmentally sustainable as possible. Here is our environmental policy that we will seek to implement at all of our events:

Travel:

  • All invited speakers and attendees, based in the UK or internationally, will be encouraged to travel by train where possible.

  • We encourage the use of public transport by all attendees of the festival and will always choose venues that can easily be reached by public transport.

  • The festival will be held in a single venue to reduce emissions caused by additional travel.

Sourcing:

  • We will hire equipment and source food and beverages where possible from local providers to further reduce emissions.

Waste:

  • The venues we work with will not sell bottled water

  • The venues we work with will separate waste for recycling

  • Drinks will be served in fully recyclable or biodegradable cups

Education:

  • We are committed to raising consciousness on environmental issues and encouraging debate and discussion around environmental themes.
